Spirit Inspired Collage Workshop
As the sun moves into the creative and gifted sign of Pisces, we will find insight, wonder and joy as we create a multi-layered collage in a single session! Building a collage with random papers becomes an exercise in learning to trust our inner voice and spirit guides.
The Collage Process
Layered, translucent and richly colored, I create my collages using very thin layers of napkins and tissue papers. In this way I can build layers of color and designs from an infinite palette.
Here is an example of how I started the collage shown above. In class we will create a background using gift tissue, napkins and paint to block out the basics of our design. There is no real commitment at this point and everything can be modified. After the background is in place, we can start to add elements that reveal the design we are inspired to create.
There are so many ways to do this! In class we will take paper scraps and napkins to use as our palette and we will use gel medium to glue down each piece. As the paper is exposed to the gel medium it will become translucent, adding depth and interest. Unlike traditional collage techniques using opaque papers, we can glue down multiple layers of different napkins to add depth, movement and color.
